Accountability

Malawi Music Fund is registered with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO). Our charity number is SC045661. Our annual accounts are independently scrutinised before being submitted to OSCR.

We are a member of the Scotland Malawi Partnership.

The charity’s board of trustees is responsible for the strategic direction and governance of the charity.   Our trustees are:

  • Sylvia Thorne (chair)
  • Glenys Hughes (secretary)
  • Roderick Thorne (treasurer)
  • Sheila Campbell
  • Alan Massey
  • Elizabeth Sullivan
  • Joanna Sutherland

The success of our work depends on donations from the generous individuals, groups and organisations which support us plus fundraising events organised by ourselves and others.  The trustees seek to ensure that all monies raised are used effectively and efficiently so that every donation we receive can make a difference to a child in Malawi. All administration is undertaken by the trustees voluntarily, while trustees and others travelling to Malawi cover their own expenses.  Funds donated specifically towards educational bursaries are held in a restricted fund which is used solely for that purpose.

We are committed to:

  • financial transparency
  • sharing information about our activities
  • providing mechanisms for feedback from anyone interested in our work
  • monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of our activities
  • listening to the needs and views of our beneficiaries
  • ensuring that safeguarding measures are robust
